Nothing like waking up to a refreshing 46 degree ride. Leaving Keystone, we ran up to Mount Rushmore one last time. Being early in the morning, traffic was light, and we had time to chat with the park ranger there. We found out that Mount Rushmore, although a federal monument, is NOT a National Park and therefore we could not use our National Park Passes. Felling ten dollars per bike was a bit expensive for a picture, we decided the pictures we had taken already were good enough and left for the days ride to Billings Mt.
Heading into Wyoming and passed by Sturgis, but without the bikes there, it was just another small town. So, on we went to Devil’s Tower (or what we refer to as, “The Giant Petrified Tree Stump”). We headed into the park and found the Tower impressive. They actually allow people to climb it! I would imagine that this would be on the bucket list of some mountain climbers.
Heading into Montana we decided to skirt an adventure to Beartooth Pass. A snowstorm had dumped 10″ of snow on the pass and they closed it for a couple days to clear. With not wanting to take any chances of having to back track hundreds of miles, we decided to just head north on I 90 to Billings.
Finally, into a town called Loral just west of Billings for the night. We pulled in, got our room and jumped in the jacuzzi. The end of a nice day’s ride. Tomorrow it’s off to Lolo Mt before heading into Idaho, over the pass and into Washington.
